Every lesson on the map
Say it once. Your student sees it again at home, right where it happened.
Spoor records the lesson with your phone in its holder. Tap a learning point and your student gets the route with your explanation on it. Alongside your own planner.
Just a phone in the holder. No box, no extra camera.
- 1 · In the car: one tap
- 2 · On the map: every moment in its place
- 3 · At home: the lesson one more time
- Built on the 13 assessment areas of the Dutch driving test (CBR)
- Your student only sees what you confirm
- Works alongside your own planner
The problem, and what Spoor does about it
Drawn map, based on a demo drive through Utrecht
The problem A driving lesson is sixty minutes your student can’t write down.
The problem After the lesson, your student remembers one thing. Not where it was.
What Spoor does With Spoor, you tap a learning point in the car, right on the spot.
What Spoor does At home, your student replays the lesson. You say it once.
How it works
Three steps. The first takes one tap.
- 1
Drive. Tap. Done.
Start the lesson with one tap. Tap Good, Watch it or Manoeuvre, or say it out loud (in Dutch, for now). Your phone stays in the holder.
- 2
Your student replays it.
After the lesson, you check the suggestions and press publish. Your student sees the route, with your explanation right where it happened.
- 3
Next lesson, prepared.
Your student gets a short summary and practises with questions about the roads they drove themselves. You pick up where you left off.
What Spoor does
From the car to the sofa at home, and back again.
This is the real app, with Noor, our demo student, in Utrecht. All names and places come from the demo.
01 · In the car
Drive. Tap. Done.
Your phone sits in the holder. One tap for what went well, what needs work, or a manoeuvre. Or just say it, in Dutch for now: “let op, spiegel” (watch it, mirror).
- Three big buttons, nothing to read while driving
- A presentation clicker works as a button too
- Stopping takes a long press, so never by accident
02 · After the lesson
After the lesson, it’s all there.
Every stop and every hard brake from the GPS, and, with your student’s consent, what was said in the lesson. You accept or delete. Your student only sees what you confirm.
- Learning points linked to the 13 CBR test areas
- Tap the route to add a moment yourself
- Publish with one button
03 · Replay
The whole lesson at a glance.
Speed against the limit, every stop, every roundabout and your comments. Your student scrolls through the lesson and the map follows along.
- Your explanation sits where it happened
- A summary before the next lesson
- The lesson audio too, if you share it
04 · Practice
Practise on their own roads.
Questions about places your student actually drove: the speed limit, the signs, who had priority and where to look. Whatever is still tricky comes back.
- Speed limits and signs from NDW (Dutch national road data) and OpenStreetMap, with the source
- Puk, the yellow dot, shows where to look
- No timers, no leaderboards
05 · Progress
Know where your student stands.
How close your student is to their test, with the reasons in plain words. Fixed rules you can adjust yourself, no black box. You decide together with your student.
- The rules are open and can be set per driving school
- You can override the estimate, with a note
- A printable progress card with a QR code for the examiner
06 · The driving school
All your lessons on one map.
See each instructor’s students, lessons and mileage. See where your students get the most learning points, and attach lesson material there. In your own branding.
- Hotspots per CBR test area
- Your own logo and colour in your students’ app
- Share lesson material, free or paid
Also in Spoor, if you want it
- Calendar with lesson requests from students
- Packages and payments
- Mileage for the Dutch tax office
- Sign-ups and a waiting list
- Messages with students and parents
See a lesson
Click through one of Noor’s lessons.
The route, the learning points, the practice questions and how close she is to her test. No account needed; everything is made up and stays in your browser. The demo is in Dutch for now.
Alongside your planner
Your planner remembers the appointment. Spoor remembers the lesson.
Keep your planner for your calendar and invoices. Spoor handles the lesson itself: the route, the learning points and what your student replays at home. If you want to switch later, calendar, packages, payments and mileage are in Spoor too.
What Spoor does
- Records the lesson and puts the learning points on the map
- Lets your student replay and practise at home
- Keeps your mileage log for the Dutch tax office (Belastingdienst)
What Spoor doesn’t do (yet)
- Connect to your planner. When you start, we move your students over together with you.
- Connect to the CBR, the Dutch driving-test authority. You add test dates yourself.
- Come as an app in the App Store or Play Store. Spoor is a web app you add to your home screen.
For your student and their parents
Every lesson, one more time.
Your student sees every turn, every stop and what you said about it. There’s no app to install: after the lesson, your student gets an email with the summary and a link to the lesson.
-
Know where you stand
How close you are to your test, in plain words. Your instructor decides.
-
Practise on your own roads
Questions about the signs and speed limits you came across yourself.
-
Parents follow along, if you want
Parents pay for lessons and packages and see the receipts. They only see progress if the student shares it.
For driving schools
All your instructors on one map.
For driving schools with two or more instructors. Spoor works alongside your scheduling, or you do everything in Spoor.
-
See where it gets tricky
Hotspots show where the students of all your instructors get the most learning points, per CBR test area.
-
An overview per instructor
This month’s students, lessons and mileage, without ringing round.
-
Your driving school in the app
Your logo and your colour, for every student.
Privacy and trust
Built with privacy as the starting point.
Your students are often 17 or 18. That’s why privacy isn’t a setting added afterwards: it’s how Spoor works.
-
Only during the lesson
Spoor only records during a lesson you start. Nothing outside it.
-
Consent for each kind
GPS and audio are separate consents, recorded with who, how and when. Without consent for GPS, Spoor doesn’t record. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.
-
You confirm first
Your student sees no suggestion at all until you’ve confirmed and published it.
-
Rules, not a black box
How close a student is to the test follows fixed rules anyone can read. No model doing the judging.
-
Built for the EU
Spoor is built to run in the EU (Frankfurt). Speech-to-text goes through a service in the EU.
-
Cleared out, and yours to take
Lesson audio is deleted after 30 days, and old raw GPS data is thinned out. Students can download all their data or have it deleted.
To be straight with you: Spoor is in its pilot phase. Before real students take part, we’re having a privacy expert review the data protection impact assessment (DPIA) and the consent texts, and driving schools get a data processing agreement.
Read the privacy statementWho’s behind it
You talk to the people who build it.
Spoor is new and built in the Netherlands. We’re in the pilot phase: the software works, and now we’re testing it in real lessons. Whatever you miss in the pilot, we build first.
Questions
What instructors ask us.
Isn’t this double work on top of my planner?
Your planner keeps your calendar and invoices; Spoor handles the lesson itself. To be honest, there’s no link with your planner yet. When you start, we set up your students in Spoor together with you.
Am I allowed to use my phone during a lesson as an instructor?
The phone stays fixed in the holder: you don’t have to pick it up and there’s nothing to read. One tap on a big button, your voice, or a presentation clicker. We’re still having the exact rules on phone use by instructors looked into. Until that’s done, we won’t say it’s legally allowed.
What does it do to my battery?
While recording, the screen stays on and Spoor stays in front. So keep your phone on the charger in the holder; in the pilot, we give you a holder and a charging cable.
What about privacy, especially with students under 18?
Spoor only records during a lesson you start, and only with your student’s consent: GPS and audio separately. Parents only see progress if the student shares it. Before real students take part, we’re having an expert review the consent texts and the privacy assessment, precisely because many students are minors.
Is audio recorded?
Only if your student consents to it; it’s off by default. Lesson audio is deleted after 30 days. Suggestions from the audio are a separate, optional add-on, and there too your student only sees what you confirm.
Will students actually watch it?
That’s what we’re measuring in the pilot, and we’ll tell you honestly what we find. Either way, it’s not another app to install: after the lesson, your student gets an email with the summary and a link to the lesson.
Aren’t there free apps that record the route?
Anyone can record a route. Spoor turns it into a lesson: learning points on the spot, linked to the CBR test areas, your review round and, for your student, the replay, practice questions about their own roads and how close the test is.
What does it cost?
Nothing during the pilot. After that, a fixed founder’s price for everyone who takes part, which we’ll set together with the instructors in the pilot. You never pay a percentage of your students’ payments.
Who owns the data, and can I leave?
Students can download all their data, with the routes as GPX files, and have it deleted. If you stop using Spoor, we’ll help you take your data with you.
What if I have no signal?
The recording is kept on your phone and uploaded as soon as you have signal again. After each lesson, the recording report shows how well the phone recorded. To be honest: we’ve tested this with simulated drives; test drives on real iPhones and Android phones are the next step.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Spoor is a web app: it works in the browser on iPhone and Android, and you add it to your home screen. There’s no app in the App Store or Play Store (yet).
Who’s behind it, and how do I reach a human?
A small team in the Netherlands. Email hallo@spoorrijles.nl, or sign up for the pilot and we’ll call you for a 15-minute intro.
Join as a founding instructor.
We’re looking for instructors in the Utrecht and Amersfoort region who want to use Spoor in their own lessons. Leave your details and we’ll call you for a 15-minute intro.
